Overview
Agentous ("we", "us", or "Agentous") ranks Canadian real estate agents using verified transaction data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain language because we'd rather you actually read it than skim past a wall of legalese.
This policy is governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation in Canada. By using Agentous, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect three categories of information:
Information you provide directly
When you contact us, fill out a form, or claim an agent profile, we collect what you submit — typically your name, email address, phone number (optional), and the substance of your message.
Information about your visit
When you browse Agentous, we automatically receive standard log data: IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, pages viewed, and approximate location (city-level, derived from IP).
Publicly available agent data
Our rankings are built on transaction records from MLS boards, provincial land registries, and other public sources. This data pertains to real estate professionals operating in a public-facing capacity, not to consumers.
How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Respond to your inquiries and provide the services you request.
- Connect you with real estate agents when you choose to reach out through our platform.
- Maintain, improve, and secure Agentous.
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security threats.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
- Send service-related communications. We will only send marketing email if you've explicitly opted in, in compliance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
How long we keep information
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
- Contact form submissions: 24 months from last interaction.
- Server logs: 90 days.
- Analytics data: aggregated and retained in non-identifiable form indefinitely.
- Marketing list entries: retained until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Request a copy of that information.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
- Withdraw consent for non-essential processing (such as marketing).
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within thirty (30) days.
A note for real estate agents
If you are a real estate professional whose information appears in our rankings: this information comes from publicly available transaction records and reflects your professional activity, not your personal life. You may claim and correct your profile at any time, and you may dispute the attribution of specific transactions through our review process.
Per our methodology, you cannot pay to alter your ranking, and you cannot request removal from rankings — but you may add a professional biography, areas of expertise, and other information to your profile, and respond directly to any reviews.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect information in our care, including TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive data, access controls limiting who can view what, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your information with the level of care we'd want for our own.
Data location
Agentous's primary data is stored in Canada. Some service providers may process data in the United States or other jurisdictions; in those cases, we use contractual safeguards to ensure your information receives equivalent protection.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. For material changes that affect how we handle existing personal information, we will notify affected users by email or through a prominent notice on the site before the changes take effect.
